On Wednesday the 29th January the Gumdrop Bins will be launched in Swansea, Wales.

Swansea Council have teamed up with Keep Wales Tidy’s ‘Tidy Towns’ initiative to launch the bin scheme in Swansea. The Gumdrops are set to be placed throughout the city, 20 are to be set up within the town centre, with another 30 being placed throughout three separate outer districts. Swansea council are currently spending £2 million a year on cleaning up litter from the city, the Gumdrops are being placed in a bid to help that cost as part of a wider effort to tackle a variety of litter issues within the city.

Phil Davies of Keep Wales Tidy, Tidy Project Officer of Swansea commented: ‘The gumdrop bins are a clean and novel way of disposing of the gum, and the great thing is that not only will the streets and pavements of Swansea look tidier, once the gumdrop is full, the whole thing is recycled into new gumdrop bins or products such as wellington boots, meaning that there is no waste whatsoever.”

From 10.30am on Wednesday morning Gumdrop representatives will be doing questionnaires, handing out badges and just generally having a good chin wag with the people of Swansea, in a bid to find out about their chewing gum habits and their thoughts on the Gumdrop process.
